IT'S SEMESTER BREAK

Finals are over and I don't have remedial so praise!!!! It's been a rough 3 days with all my papers coming one after the other, but the last day is really the last day of the whole of finals week so everybody is free!

At first I was like 'yay! time to play video games!' then I remembered about all the spring cleaning I have to do which include rearranging furniture, cleaning bookshelves, updating the harem blog, completing some overdue art pieces, and then only do I get to play video games or read books or hang out with my friends. I had to go visit grandma in a small town so some time is wasted there...

I had to clear out the bookshelves and decide which books to abandon, then I emptied one of the lower shelves to put my jeans drawer, and then I have to put some indicators on which books I've yet to finish... it took me 4 days to clean the bookshelves plus my wardrobe and work table! I had to arrange the books by category, relocate my sketchbooks, I brought in the TV from the living room onto my second work table to use as a monitor and consoles are now below said table so I could game in my room (which is awesome but not so great because... overheating). Then one of my HDMI cables broke...

Video games! I managed to finish the main story of Ni no Kuni and get the casino trophies thanks to forums, familiarity at one point away, and I defeated the Guardian of Worlds, so now my only tasks are to tame another 45 species, get every field map treasure chest and complete 120 items. Alchemy is the one I'm really worried about because nobody likes farming for materials. After this I can play replay FF13 and work on the platinum. Or, I could actually play TLOU because it's way overdue and the game is 6 years old!

A few days ago I participated in a Kingdom Hearts friendship zine with a piece from last April. It's a great zine with artwork, cosplays and writing, and yall should check it out!

The Steven Universe finale special just aired a few hours ago... OH BOI!!!!!! This episode is just fanservice from start to finish! The new fusions, the gems' new outfits, the appearance of the temple fusion aka OBSIDIAN, the dread when WD pulls the gem out of Steven... and he lives! HE LIVES! The amped up animation was so fluid when Steven embraces himself - literally and figuratively - and the moral of the story is: NO ONE IS PERFECT AND YOU ARE WORTH LOVING NO MATTER WHAT. Steven has grown so much. He's not a boy, he's not a gem. He's Steven, and that's all he needs to be.

Following SU's finale-not-finale, it's time for FANART! So apart from my current projects which include another 10 knights, daily sketches and more fanart! Now that I have a new workstation setup, it's time to try it out and see if it holds up. I mean the bigger screen is a huuuuge plus, but now I don't have any space to rest my wrists and arms my shoulders and neck will be tense and in pain once I stop

I did some reading during the last week, the first being The Nanny Diaries, which is good, but too annoying. I couldn't stand Mrs. X's character so I had to stop halfway. I didn't finish it. The Great Gatsby was... not impressive. I have no idea why people thought it was a great piece of literature. It has a certain 'feel' to it, that I have to admit. Is it because of this feel that everyone thinks it's great? It gives me the impression that the story is one of irony. The Hobbit is the best one I've read in two days. Something about Tolkien's works makes you wanna relive everything. No wonder people have LoTR film marathons every year! Reading this prequel is making me want to read the whole of LoTR again and I'm not prepared to do so.

And then there's CNY... Everybody's busy during the week and I will have plenty of time to play video games and draw and read but which of these do I wanna do... which...

I got a sunburn

Uuh, I'm back! Did yall catch the last review? My video game schedule is screwed for life!

Apart from the blatantly obvious (my semester break ending and me finishing Yakuza 0 within a week), life has been pretty good. Last July I went to Indonesia as part of a summer program, which doesn't feel like summer AT ALL because it was freezing in West Java due to the winds from Australia.

The 13-day trip passed quite quickly - I brought RM300 to Indo and spent them all on food and some cloth (heard they were pretty cheap). Not to brag but I'm quite proud of my own travel-planning skills. My classmates? Not so much... They ran out of cash to spend, didn't bring important toiletries, had luggage bags full of useless shit in them, and then said bags were over the weight limit so some things happened... there's a bunch of things I could list down about their incompetence when it comes to travel planning but I'm going to stop here. No use fretting over stuff you can't control.

After visiting Indonesia, even just a small part of it, made me realize that Malaysia had nothing. The Malays has 'lost' their culture. It really says a lot when Indonesians still have dance and clothing from the small ethnic groups of the islands, but all we had were merely what used to be Indonesian. No one will call out this BS because it's an all-time controversial topic about the real origins of who we call the 'bumiputeras' aka Malays of Malaysia. We're not going to go into that shithole of arguments because our country is not as free as people think it is. Let's jsut focus on the good parts eh?

Malaysian food is quite similar to Indonesian food. For instance, what they call terang bulan is actually apam balik. The kuihs? We have most of them, just with different names. Some things that I couldn't recognize (from looks or taste) is this mofo right here:
My classmates picked this dish because it looked weird, but didn't dare eat it afterwards. So, I took it upon myself to taste test this. It's delicious! It's small fish, very salty, so I guess you can't eat it on it's own. And they thought it was maggots! There's also seblak to the left, which is one of the only few 'exotic' foods I bought for myself during the whole trip, during the last few days. I also bought lumpiah, which are apparently spring rolls, but the ones I bought look nothing like spring rolls! I guess the filling is the same... I have a confession to make. Indonesian tempeh tastes better than Malaysian tempeh! There! I said it, don't at me! In all seriousness I was not fond of local tempeh for some reason. Then Indonesia blew me away with their tempeh. Just... magnificent! Never ate that much soy in two weeks!

I got my first batik in Indonesia. As a Malaysian I should've gotten one but no, my first is Indonesian batik in the form of a wrap skirt. There's also my obsession with Indomie OH GOD YOU DON'T KNOW HOW OBSESSED I WAS WITH INDOMIE. There are over 20 flavours and I only found 17, including the Kuliner Indonesia series. And now they have salted egg flavour oh god. I came back with a whole backpack of Indomie and my mother was not impressed. Neither are my classmates and friends. The looks they give me are saying 'you went to Indonesia just to come back with a bunch of instant noodles?' Yes. Yes I did.

Speaking of souvenirs, I did not buy any. The keychains I own were all given to me by the facilitators (who were amazing people). I bought a fridge magnet but that was so I could decorate the world map in the living room.

Also, I got awful sunburns and a suntan!

Coming back from my first school related overseas trip I am grateful for this experience. I caught an eel. I performed really bad silat. I played angklung. I learned some Indonesian words. But one thing I won't do is play water activities. That's a no-no. There's some unpleasant days, uncomfortable living conditions, but like PLKN, it's fun.

Year end money spending (aka Comic Fiesta 2017, and other stuff)

Ayy!!! It's the end of the year! Finals are close! I'm almost dead from the semester!

Out of all the new year resolutions I did for 2017... I only completed like, two? Granted I didn't make a physical list, but it's always at the back of my mind.

When the end of the year approaches, you know things get hectic. People clearing out paid leaves, stockdates, parents bringing their children to vacation and coming back last minute, back to school shopping, kids with unfinished holiday homework, extreme Christmas and new year sales... the usual.

For me a years' end marks the start of week-long planning in order to attend CF2017. Every damn year I spend a week deciding on outfits, commute and best routes so that I may get in and out as soon as possible. Record time for this year (on day 2) is 30 minutes.

The venue for CF2017 is great, KLCC has all the space to house various booths and ample of walking space (except for that one lane). However, as good as the place may be, the layout is stupid. The entrance is at the very far end, where the exhibitors are. After that you have the premium artist booths, then lastly the basic artist booths. The exit is around that corner. I have ZERO interest in the exhibitors. What I wanted the most was fanzines and doujinshi in the artist booth, and they're at the very far end of the hall. I'M PISSED. For two days I had to squeeze through hordes of sweaty people and some who just stand there in the middle of the lane to look at booths. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE. When I finally get to the artist booths there's another looooong queue for the cosplayer booths that block the lane, AGAIN.

The ticket price is another thing that shocked me. RM30 for a day. 2015 in MIECC was only 20. 20! The venue was decent! Last year at PWTC was 25, and even then the venue absolutely SUCKED. I hope the rise in price was because of the venue (KLCC is a great place in the city centre after all). I can't afford to attend CF if the ticket price goes any higher.

Living with my aunt was a new experience, in a weird way. Her home looks like a haunted house among the renovated buildings. Her bathroom reminds me of my grandmother's bathroom, and it has no shower or water tank. The kitchen has a broken stove and a refrigerator possibly from the 80s! The floor downstairs is like the one at home, and the stairs is made of wooden planks similar to my grandfather's now abandoned house. The floor upstairs has the classic early 2000s wood blocks which come off whenever you step them with wet feet. No big tiles, no ceiling fan, no water heater. I thought I was living at my grandmothers'.

Did I get any pictures of cosplayers? Yes, only one of Luna in her wedding dress. Then there was another Luna but she seemed busy so I didn't ask for a picture. I saw a few Promptos and a Ignis. Was hoping I'd see more western cartoon characters, but didn't find any. I'm always on the lookout for Steven Universe and Miraculous Ladybug cosplays. Also DDLC. If you are one of them, please tell me. I will want to take your picture. I was thinking to try cosplay this year because I have a lab coat but ditched the plan last minute because I didn't have the appropriate outfit. I was actually kinna stupid to not cosplay as Tae Takemi from P5. Really really stupid me. I keep thinking of Shinra from DRRR but Tae may be easier. Maybe. I have no idea where to get the strap heels tho.

After day 1 of CF me and aunt went to see The Last Jedi, because there's nothing left for us to do. I didn't know it came out on the 14th. The movie was great! I loved Rose! I loved Finn! I loved Poe! I loved Phasma! I loved everyone! And you know what! I don't care if people say SW has become SJW shit because it hasn't!!! Still a great movie!!! WHy can't we all just enjoy things??!!

TLJ could do without the potential Rose/Finn or Rey/Finn because I need platonic M/F relationships and if Rose/Finn is really a thing I don't want Rey to be the other jealous love interest. No. Stop it. We already have that in plenty of movies. Stop.

Last month I went to see another movie - Justice League. It was not in my watch list but since I've never gone out with my classmates in the middle of the night before I thought it wouldn't hurt to watch a superhero movie. Justice League was a little... eeehhhh... but still good in its own way. I have a few doubts and questions though...

One: does Aquaman have amblyopia??? His eyes has been bothering me since the first time he appeared on screen! Second: Flash is so cute. Ezra Miller is so cute. He is the DC equivalent of Marvel's Spiderman. Third: I love Batman, but I also love making fun of him. Whenever he comes on screen I do the signature throat cancer voice and say "I'm Batman" to my other two classmates sitting next to me. One is annoyed, one thought it was funny. Fourth: I love how everyone in the cinema agrees that Wonder Woman is the best. When she appeared on screen everyone cheered (softly). Fifth: best line in the whole movie, when Batman is asked what his superpower is, he answers "I'm rich." Sixth: My classmate finds my annoyance on Superman's shirtless-ness funny. I could not concentrate on the following scenes just because Superman loses his top but his pants are still intact and in good condition. HOW. Seventh: How can Superman's girlfriend fly away with him to the stratosphere and not die of oxygen deprivation??

Then comes a week-long Christmas holiday before our study break, which totals in two weeks of extra time to study. Bad news is, the one subject that needed the most study time is the first paper on the first day. And I haven't started on anything yet. I've been saying I'd get a PS4 since last year, but I might really buy one next year during my semester break. I have seven PS4 games sitting on my shelf, waiting for me to play them. Caligula OD is coming to PS4 soon, so I'm praying for a localization. There's Ni no Kuni 2, I might get the newest Dragon Quest (srsly I'm in need of more JRPGs to play), Nier Automata may be kicked out of my wishlist, but I really don't want to, because the music is great... but I suck at action games so...

Anyways my first paper is on the 8th so I better start studying eye lesions with plenty of gross pus on eyelids.

I'm featuring a new series of music I find interesting/obsessing/relevant to the current gaming scene. Guess which one this belongs to. Btw I've already heard this song waaaaaay before I knew of Death Stranding, in Thomas Sanders' Steven Universe playlist. Go listen to that playlist if you haven't. There's some amazing songs in there.

Events, Events Everywhere...

You know when I said University life is hectic as hell since I have 3 laboratory reports, multiple assignments and now even extra-curricular points to worry about! MSU is making my life easier by making us go to events as our compulsory assignments and projects... but still... this week is a physical stamina trainwreck!

ROUND 1: DMC RAPPORTEUR

I'm working with the 'top' students in this event: the Student Representative Council, aka "prefects" and oh god are they top students! I swear they don't eat or sleep. I have 2 lab reports due, but every day I only get to go home at 7pm +, so I didn't have any time to print shit. I'm just a smol committee tryin' to hustle ok!

The whole convention lasts three days: the first day was a holiday, so everyone is expected to be there to do their jobs. I drove to school before the sun is even up (without breakfast!). I got the morning session, the job was pretty easy. Had lunch with everyone, we fooled around for a bit on stage ("which comes first: the chicken or the egg??") before we were assigned to lead participants to their workshops. Everything was super tiring because there was nothing to do and we had to run around a lot.

I did not do much on the second day because I had class all day except in the morning. So I finished my slot in the morning and went to class as usual... then there's a stupid announcement on flash mob practice at 6pm, which would most probably extend until 9pm+... and it did. When I got back I finished half of my lab report and left the other half for the next day.

The last day was ok because I just need to be there for the closing ceremony. What sucked was that I brought many bags and it was a hassle. We took a bunch of pictures, joked around, mom came to fetch me home and I slept like a log.

Tl;dr, my team is awesome.

update: class was canceled so haha no need to pass up the lab report

ROUND 2: WORLD AIDS DAY FLASH MOB

PEC800 students have been practicing for this flash mob since a month ago, and only by 15th December we get to execute this shit. Technically it was because of last minute flash mob practices AND rapporteur jobs that made the day so packed. During our last two practice sessions it was a full-on rehearsal, and our flash mob was at the very end, so we had to sit through 3~4 hours of boring shit before our turn.

Brought my laptop to finish my lab report while waiting for our turn to perform. Managed to finish everything, all that is left were to print it out and bind it. The flash mob was not so much of a surprise anymore because of sudden technical issues with the music (lmao), so I'm kinna like "FOR REAL??? I DIDN'T PRACTICE A MONTH FOR THIS TO HAPPEN???" and also we were required to wear red. Everyone would be suspicious if everyone wore red. Anyway the dance was awesome, I enjoyed myself, and I enjoyed it even more when afternoon class was canceled so I attended DMC closing ceremony.

ROUND 3: PEC MAJOR PROJECT

This one takes the cake for being extremely annoying and making me 100x anxious. This fell on exactly 17th December, and guess what also falls on the same day??? COMIC FIESTA DAY 1.

I was going to sell my ticket but no one wanted it... haha I didn't pay RM25 for nothing so yep I'm going to CF after my project, dirt and sweat and all!

Nothing really interesting happened except for the final event. We were going to play a tug of war to determine the winning team. Let's just say our team is... the least ideal team. We only had two guys, one is a professional dancer, the other a lazy bum, both are average built. We have no big-sized girls, all of us were either tiny or tall and lean or chubby. The opposing team had at least 5 guys, at least one was big-sized. They won in a landslide. We were totally annihilated. When the game started we were immediately pulled forward, we were (literally) flying, our feet were not even on the ground, I fell, bruised my arm and bum, my friend peeled the skin on her palm. It was BRUTAL.

ROUND 4: HEALTH SCIENCE WEEK

We have to set up a booth and make 3D models of the major human systems. This was known since a month ago, as our assignment for Anatomy and Physiology subject. So me and a classmate did a mechanism model instead of a 3D one, but all worked out, our lecturer was meh. Since ours involve a lot of water all I can say our model was in the verge of collapsing at the end.

There was a talk about organ donation and the speaker asked: "Are yall scared of organ donation?" and I'm like "Pfffttt what's there to be scared about" Apparently most people didn't know that organ donation takes place after you dead. Like????? Huh????? Kidneys and liver can be donated when a person is still alive but other organs???? People don't use common sense???? They had a Q&A session with really easy questions. The problems lies if you dare to step out to answer on the microphone. If you do you get a t-shirt. I did. The colour was nice.

The second day is just a prize giving ceremony. It was supposed to end on that day, but somehow the following day our lecturer had to judge a video competition so we're like???? We wanna study plz???? We ended up being in the same hall to watch videos about traditional medicine.

After all these events we need to write reports and hand them in within a week haha goodbye life, see you in 2017.

YURI ON ICE

??????

The quadruple flip was a signature move of Victor Nikiforov, so...

FUCK.

TELL ME VICTUURI ISN'T CANON NOW I DARE YOU

IS2G I CAN DIE FROM THIS ALONE MY WHOLE BEING IS CLEANSED I HAVE FOUND NEW PURPOSE TO LIVE AHHH WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE

11 November 2016

MSU啥???

MSU……

*flips hair... i dont hv hair to flip lol*
